BRAF was founded by numerous individuals that founded and help produce the well known social gathering and cultural event 'Burning Man'. These individuals organized numerous community-involved art projects in the Nevada dessert, and immediately decided to expand their capabilities and projects outside of the Nevada desert, when they quickly realized how these immense and gigantic projects brought the community together and how it invited individuals "to interact with both the work itself and the community at large".
